Sukkot & Simchas Torah

Seven days of dwelling in the sukkah, taking the Four Kinds and rejoicing — followed by Shemini Atzeres and Simchas Torah.

About the holiday

The season of our rejoicing

Sukkot recalls how G‑d sheltered our ancestors on their journey from Egypt to the Promised Land. For seven days we eat our meals in the sukkah, a hut covered with greenery, under the open sky.

Coming right after the solemn High Holidays, Sukkot is a time of joy. Each day we hold the Four Kinds together — the lulav, esrog, hadassim and aravos — a sign of unity and of our belief that G‑d is everywhere.

Next SukkotOct 15–242027Sukkot 5788Begins at sundown on Friday, October 15, through nightfall on Sunday, October 24 — including Shemini Atzeres and Simchas Torah.
