About the holiday

A new year for trees

The 15th of Shevat marks the season when the earliest-blooming trees in the Land of Israel wake from their winter rest and begin a new cycle of fruit.

The Torah compares a person to a tree of the field. Like a tree, we need deep roots, steady growth and good fruit — our good deeds — to share with the world.
